The LPC Library, like most academic libraries, uses the Library of Congress classification system (LC). 

Books on the history of the United States have a call # starting with a E and within the E's books about Mexican Americans have call numbers of E 184 M5. 

You might also see other call numbers depending on the subject area.  For example, books on the el Teatro Campesino founder Luis Valdez will be in the literature/drama section (PN) or immigration (JV).
