MUS 5 - Music Online: Latin

This is a general overview of the Music Online streaming with specific instructions for Music 5 classes.

  • From the right column FIND, choose "Audio, Video, and Images".
  • Scroll down to Music Online (or choose one of the specific music collections).

There are multiple ways to find Latin music.  Here are 2 methods to get you started:

Latino Music Assignment Tip

For this assignment, you may use music that:

  • Originates from any Latin American country
  • Any music that has a Latino influence
  • For example, the Tex-Mex style of music that is popular in the United States

  Browsing for Latin Music

Option 1 - Browse Places

In the left column under Browse, choose Places.

Click South America from the list.

In the grey box, choose one of the South American countries

Example: Brazil (103 hits)

The number in parenthesis indicates the number of albums in that group.  There may be more tracks once you are in the album details.

Caution:  Many albums may be compilations that contain all types of music.  Click on the song title to see detailed information listed under "Cultural Group", "Cultural Place", or "Place" to be sure that the selected song matches your assignment requirements.

  Searching for Latin Music

Option 2 - Search by Keyword

In the search box located on the uper right, type in your keyword(s).

For example you can search by a country name, a cultural group name, an instrument or genre specific to Latin music. 

Look through your textbook or class notes for ideas of other keywords.

Sample keywords: 

  • South America
  • Peru
  • Salsa
  • Tejono
  • Candombe (drumming)
  • Andean flute
