This is an EXCERPT of the instructions specific to library research. Be sure to refer to Prof. Hight's complete assignment for detailed requirements and instructions.
Step 1: Topic Approval
Choose a human physiology topic that is of interest to you to research. If you are insure, check with your instructor.
- Complete a literature search as demonstrated during the library orientation.
- Start with a review article that provides a broad overview of the topic. This review article can be very useful in guiding your literature search.
Step 2: Library Research
- Research your topic finding valid and reliable references. A minimum of three references are required, one of which must be a primary research article. I recommend starting with a secondary research article (i.e., a review of the topic) and from there select a related primary research article.
- To find references, use the LPC Library’s online resources. Of course, you may also use on-site materials from the library, or you may go to the Valley Care Library in Pleasanton.
- All research references must be from scientific journals or high quality internet sites. General encyclopedias and “non-science” websites are not acceptable as one of the three main references, but may be used in addition to those. If you’re not sure, check with your instructor.
- Create an annotated bibliography. This is a list of your references with a brief summary (2-6 sentences) and include any limitation. References must be in APA format. Indicate which reference(s) are primary research articles. The format should be an APA citation followed by an indented annotation.
Step 3: Create an Outline
- Create an outline that includes an introduction of your topic, a summary of your research findings, and a conclusion
- Develop 2-3 student learning outcomes that you hope your classmates will gain from your presentation
Step 4: Prepare a Presentation
- Your last slide(s) has to contain all your references in APA format.
