Finding Books in the LPC Library

To find books about a famous person, you will need to use the library's online catalog.

SEARCH CATALOG

Example of a search to type: Simone Biles and BELL Beginning

  • This example is asking the computer to look for any books about the famous American gymnast that are in the LPC Library's books in the BELL Collection.
  • Books in the BELL Collection are chosen because they are a good reading level for students learning English.
  • Beginning indicates the reading level. The other levels are Intermediate and Advanced.*

* In our library, we use color labels on the book covers to show the reading levels.

  • Beginning = Blue
  • Intermediate = Yellow
  • Advanced = Green

Ask a librarian if you need help using the library's online catalog or finding a book using a call number.

What are Call Numbers?

Call numbers are the order that library books are shelved in the library. Some people describe is the address to find the book.

Example: BELL GV460.2 .B55 L35 2017

  • BELL is the special section in our library for ESL books.
  • Every subject is given one or two letters such as GV. In this example, GV stands for sports and gymnastics.
  • At the bookshelves, you would look for the call number by its letter in A to Z order (GV).
  • Next, you would look by number order (460.2).
  • If there are many books with the same number, then look for the next letter (B) followed again by the next number (55).
  • 2017 is the year the book was published or printed.
