The purpose of this guide is to help students find 2 texts similar in medium and genre to evaluate on their argumentative merits.  You will find suggestions for locating articles in databases, websites, and online television news programs and commercials.

Questions to focus on:

  • What premises does each text use to support its conclusion?
  • What hidden assumptions does each text include?
  • How does each text use logos, ethos, and pathos?
  • How does each text address counterarguments?
  • Do the tets use any refutation or concession?
