This is a guide for ESL 131B students looking for information and images about noteworthy women born in the United States or abroad, from history or present day.

Using library resources, students will find suggestions for locating encyclopedia articles, books, and images from print and online sources. Students will then put these pictures on a poster with a caption under each picture, then present it to their classmates.

Students will choose photographs of the important women they have chosen and images of their contributions to the world. The woman may be from any field, including:

  • Art
  • Drama
  • Education
  • Film
  • Medicine
  • Music
  • Politics
  • Science
  • Sports

Once you have chosen your famous woman, gather basic information that answers these questions:

WHO (the name of the woman)

WHAT (What was she most well-know for doing)

WHEN (the historic period in which she lived/lives)

WHERE (the places she worked, the areas of the world she influenced)
