MUS 5 - Music Online: Folk

This is a general overview of the Music Online streaming with specific instructions for Music 5 classes.

  • OR To find Music Online on the LPC Library Homepage.
  • From the right column FIND, choose "Audio, Video, and Images".
  • Scroll down to Music Online (or choose one of the specific music collections).

There are multiple ways to find folk music.  Here are 2 methods to get you started:

  Browsing for Folk Music

Option 1 - Browse Genre

In the left column under Browse, choose Genre.

Click American Folk or Folk from the list.

Choose one of the sub-genres

Example: Protest songs

Caution:  Many albums may be compilations that contain all types of music.  Click on the song title to see detailed information listed under "Cultural Group", "Cultural Place", or "Place" to be sure that the selected song matches your assignment requirements.

  Searching for Folk Music

Option 2 - Search by Keyword

In the search box located on the uper right, type in your keyword(s).

For example you can search by a sub-genre, an instrument, song title, or performer's/composer's name. 

Look through your textbook or class notes for ideas of other keywords.

  • Pete Seeger
  • Honky-Tonk
  • Cowboy Songs
  • Sharpe-Note Singing
