English 1A - iSearch Paper

This is a general guide for students in Prof. Cole's and Prof. Garcia's English 1A classes interested in locating information using library resources available at LPC.  You'll find suggestions for locating resources for your English 1A assignment and pointers to sources on creating a Works Cited list in MLA.

Please contact a reference librarian if you need further assistance.

iSearch Paper

Students will be writing a research paper and an annotated bibliography.

The iSearch paper is a four-step process.

1. Develop a research question based on the broad topics the class has been discussing: happiness and success.

2. Walk us through the triumphs and tribulations of your research journey.

3. Describe your research results by quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, and analyzing the information.

4. Reflect on how the information you found confirmed, complicated, and/or challenged your understanding of the topic you chose. You will also reflect on how others might benefit from this information.

Audience: Your audience is your classmates and teacher. Your goal is to show us a new perspective on your topic. Therefore, you should provide enough information in each step of your iSearch paper in order to help us follow along with your research journey. Imagine you are writing to someone unfamiliar with the topic.

*Consult your instructor's assignment for specific details regarding this research paper.*
