Kanopy contains content from the Media Education Foundation (MEF), which "produces and distributes documentary films to inspire critical thinking about the social, political, and cultural impact of American mass media."
Kanopy, a collection of 150+ streaming videos, supports the LPC curriculum by providing access to some of the library's most frequently requested documentaries such as:
Other subject areas include arts, health, social issues, media/communications, science, and the humanities.
Create a user account if you want to save any videos in a playlist for easier retrieval later.
Click Sign In located on the upper right corner of any Kanopy page.
On the log in page, select Create a Kanopy account.
However, you do not need to create an account or profile to simply search/browse or view videos.
BROWSE (2 options):
1. Scroll through the homepage to see the thumbnail images of the films.
2. To browse available titles by subject, click on any of the areas listed under Videos by Subject under the Kanopy logo. For example, scroll over Media/Comm to expand the category to see narrower subjects.
SEARCH: You can search by title or keyword by typing to the search field.
Keeping your search terms broad is a good idea. For example, gender or race.
To watch a video, click on a video title, image, or play button.
Once you are in the video page, click the play icon under video screen.
Close captioning is available for most videos. Look for the "CC" icon below the video screen.
You can add a full video or custom video clips to a playlist.
Click on the Playlist/Clip button below the video screen.
NEW PLAYLIST: Type in the required info such as your name, email, and playlist title.
EXISTING PLAYLIST: If you an exisiting playlist that you want to add to, sign in on the upper right. Choose Your Playlists to View or Edit.
When you are in the playlist, you can rearrange the order of the clips you have made and add notes.
To put the entire video in any document, website, or Canvas course, copy and paste the title URL from your browser's location bar.

To put a playlist or clips in any document, website, or Canvas course, be sure to click on the playlist. Then copy and paste the title URL located in browser location bar OR the one that was emailed to you when you created/updated your playlist.

In Canvas, use the Link function to add the URL.*
