Marginalization in 21st Century USA

Background

Read and annotate "Nobody" and "How Immigrants Become 'Other'" with attention to the treatment of people living in the United States.

In "Nobody," Marc Hill writes about the role of the State and social constructs that have caused "poor, Black, Brown, immigrant, queer, or trans" people in the United States to be "nobody." His extended definition of "nobody" is developed through stories about individuals and identifying common characteristics that these individuals share.

The immigrants described by Marcelo Suarez-Orozco & C. Suarez-Orozco in “How Immigrants Become ‘Other’” are similar to the Black males described by Marc Hill. In both cases, people living in the United States are marginalized and treated differently than the majority.
